Abstract:

This study explores the evolution of India's economy through an in-depth analysis of post-independence economic policies and their impact on the nation's growth and development. It examines key policy phases, from the early adoption of a mixed economy model with a focus on state-led industrialization to the liberalization reforms of 1991 that opened markets to global competition. The study highlights how these policies influenced sectors like agriculture, industry, and services, shaping India’s economic landscape over the decades. It also delves into the socio-economic outcomes of these policies, including poverty alleviation, employment generation, and regional development, while addressing challenges such as income inequality and economic disparities. By assessing the successes and shortcomings of various policy frameworks, this research provides valuable insights into how economic strategies have shaped India's journey towards becoming one of the world’s fastest-growing economies.
